My name is Kelsey Nicole McLain, in real life. 21/F/Dallas,TX. I am a signed fashion model & professional seamstress. I travel 84 days out of the year. My mind operates very differently from others. I’m an extreme introvert. Being around people takes away my energy. Being alone makes me gain energy. I go grocery shopping with headphones in so that I can pretend that I’m alone. I have two best friends, Emilia & Morgan. I have two cats, Dora and Boots… who just had 4 babies… so I guess I have six cats. But, I really don’t like telling people that I have six cats for obvious reasons. I love cats, almost obsessively. I do a lot of cool shit, usually with myself.

Q&A

false-catalyst asked: Ugh Spirit Airlines are absolute shit. Sorry you had to deal with them.

Never trust a company if their customer representatives are Indian and their names are ‘John’ or ‘Linda’. Lies, fallacies, and fairy tales.

Happy Earth Day: Free Starbucks!

HAPPY EARTH DAY! ♥: Head on over to Starbucks for a FREE coffee or tea! All you have to do is bring in your own tumbler/travel mug. By doing so, you’re helping Starbucks reduce their environmental impact. Last year customers who brought in their own mug contributed to keeping nearly 1.45 million pounds of paper out of landfills!

I took my mommy to dinner last night

I took my mommy to dinner last night for her early birthday present. We went to the French Room. $80/person - Appetizer, Main Course, Dessert. We both had the lump crab cake for out appetizers - Amazing, 95% delicious crab meat 5% filler. I had the Black Angus Beef Tenderloin - Melt in my mouth, I could literally cut it with my fork. My mommy had the Study of Veal - So yummy w/ a perfect marsala sauce. For dessert I had berries & my mommy had the soufflés. Guess what I’m having for dinner tonight? Cheerios. -____-

Look at our dinner outfits. Highlighting my moms - Her dress is from Anthropologie (picked out by my older sister), her heels are Nine West, and her necklace is handmade by my sister. Her dress has pockets, she’s so adorable. Happy Birthday MommyBear, I love you. :)

Anonymous asked: How many agencies did you submit your work to before getting signed and how long was the process?

I submitted to several agencies but I got signed to the first agency that I went to an open call for. It’s normally not so easy but I have an extremely charming personality.

I’m suppose to be in New York right now

But guess what, I’m not because lazy me got to the airport 9 minutes before my plane was departing. I actually do this every time I have a flight. I have never been to the airport more than 30 minutes before take off. I am always the last one on the plane. I am that girl, that girl running in the airport (in fabulous heels). So, my plane departure time was 10:35AM. By the time I parked my car at Express South, waited for the bus, and got to the check in counter - it was 10:24AM. I didn’t have a bag to check so I thought I was totally good and the woman could just give me my boarding pass and I could run, as usual, to my gate. *Insert all derogatory names for a female here* did not give me my boarding pass. I have missed flights before and it’s usually tots fine, I just get on the next plane. Why did they not have another flight until Saturday? That’s fine Spirit Airlines. I have never flown Spirit and I will never attempt to again. Just wondering, why did I have to pay for my carry ons? Whatever, after a waste of waking up early, a waste of driving to the airport, and a waste of $500, I tried to stay positive. I was all like, it’s okay Kelsey. You can stay home and be productive. Guess what I did all of yesterday and today? I took about 4 naps on my couch and watched National Geographic. I need to get my shit together. Oh well, flights to North Carolina and then New York next week. I will not miss my flights, I tell myself.

I’m On a Plane

I’m the worst blogger ever. My new goal (thought of 2 seconds ago, not promised) is to find time to release a post every Monday & Thursday. Not likely, but it’s exciting to think so.

So, I’m on a plane right now. I’m heading to San Francisco but fingers crossed that we make an accidental crash landing in Fiji. Wouldn’t that be some shit. Anyways, heading to San Francisco to spend time with my big sister (www.eahops.com) and my sister’s two best friends, Terrence Wheatley (cornerback for the Tennessee Titans) and Leah. I’m coming to 1]Rage & 2]This is my sister’s first outdoor track meet of the season! Wish her luck pls. :)

It’s my first time flying Virgin America. Shits intense. About to order a cheese plate. I’m confused why the flight attendants still have on their clothes? Still waiting.

Anyways, I’m finally updating my Outfit of the Day section. (www.KelseyNicole.com -> Pages -> OOTD) k, baiii.

Q&A

Anonymous asked: What advice would you give to young women who want to get signed to an adequate modeling agency?

1] Starting out: Network! Do not expect anyone to come to you, reach out to them. Find photographers, makeup artists, designers, stylists, etc. on social networks. Let them know you are new to the modeling industry and are interested in building your portfolio. You do not need a full portfolio to go to an open call or submit your photos to an agency. A girl who has 3 photos can be chosen over a girl who has 30 photos. Get the basics: a headshot, 3/4 body shot, & a full body shot. Keep makeup and hair natural & wear clothes that show your body frame. 2] Be practical: Before even attempting to put together a modeling portfolio, it is important to know what type of modeling you can do. Do your research on different modeling divisions (fashion, commercial, runway, etc.) and know where you fit. Sometimes you may not fit in any category. For example: If you are 5’5” and are aspiring to be a fashion model (who are generally between 5’8”-5’11” for females and 5’11”-6’1” for men) you might want to consider an alternative. 3] Go to open calls! Try going to open calls in your area. Most agencies post when they do open calls on their websites, some you may have to call to find out how to submit yourself. Prepare yourself. Bring at least 3-8x10 printed shots (headshot, 3/4 body shot, & a full body shot). Most agencies will want to keep at least one of your photos. It’s okay if they are not in a book. Wear something simple & form fitting w/ heels. Wear minimal makeup. Agencies want to see your face, not M.A.C. Go in confident & friendly. You could be the most beautiful, 5’10”, perfect fashion model body, exactly what they wanted appearance wise, but if you have an ugly attitude, you can still be rejected. 4] Be smart: So you just started building your portfolio and you get an e-mail from SuperRandomCompanyInc saying they want to fly you out to Fiji for a photoshoot for Versace on a beautiful mountaintop, compensation is $7k? Sounds like rapeville. If something seems too amazing to be true, it usually is. Do your research before getting involved in anything. There are plenty of legit agencies/companies but there are plenty more that are non-legit. Read a full contract/model release/anything before signing. Once you sign anything, you are legally binded to abide by everything that piece of paper says. What if in the fine print it said “oh yeah, btw you will pay $10,000 and high chance of homicide” and your dumbass just signed that without even reading it? Don’t be afraid to take your time to fully read a contract. If there’s parts you don’t understand, have someone (a lawyer if possible) review it for you. 5] Never pay a penny: I have been signed for 2 1/2 years and have been modeling for 3 years. I have never once paid for a photo shoot, for photos, for a makeup artist, for a stylist, to be with an agency, etc. I have never paid for anything. Yes, that photographer who is super awesome wants to charge you $200, but if you keep looking, you’ll find another photographer that is just as great who is willing to shoot you for free.  Legitimate agencies will NEVER ask you for any money. You do not pay agencies, they pay you! The way agencies make money is by getting you jobs and they take their cut (which should never be more than 20%). 6] Be healthy: Take care of your body, skin, & overall well-being. 7] There’s plenty of fishies in the big sea: If an agency turns you down, don’t be discouraged. Continue to go to open calls or submit your photos to other agencies. Everyone has a different niche to fill and if you have what it takes you will eventually get signed. Persistence and a tough skin is key to success in the modeling industry.

Good luck! xo

It’s been a long week!

Please excuse me for my lack of blogging. I’ve been busy having a life outside of the internet. Actually, I’ve been busy attempting unsuccessfully to hack into all of my neighbors WIFIs while crying that I don’t have internet. My own internet was down until a couple days ago because I MOVED (again). For those who have been internet stalking me over the past couple years, you have noticed that I move quite often. While most people live in the same place for at least one year,  my current apartment is my 5th apartment in 2 years - my 3rd apartment Downtown in 10 months. My current apartment is a 1,600 sq ft 2 story loft. More room for more cats. Jk, maybe.

You Deserve It: Oh, Lola! By Marc Jacobs

I’m in my jammies but before I go to bed I wanted to share with you my most amazing buy in months. Oh, Lola! by Marc Jacobs perfume (or parfum if you’re douchey). If you’re wondering what it smells like, the best way that I can describe it is a mixture between Jesus, sunshine, & a slight chance of monarch butterflies. It comes in 4 different sizes. Rollerball ($22), 1 oz ($48), 1.7 oz ($68), and the one I bought 3.4 oz ($88). I bought the rollerball first and fell in love with the scent. I purchased both from Sephora. I recommend getting both a bottle & a rollerball - The bottle is for all over & the portable rollerball is perfect for all day touchups. Treat yourself! You deserve it! xo

Health Tip #2: Virgin Coconut Oil!

Best sh*t ever. I put this on my face, I put this in my hair, I put this on my nails, I put this in my food, I cannot live without this. Thank you coconut oil Jesus for putting this in my life. You can buy coconut oil from mostly anywhere. I choose to get Dr. Bronner’s Fresh-Pressed Virgin Coconut Oil. You can find Dr. Bronner’s products at most douchey markets. I get mine from douchelord WholeFoods for approx $7. Basically, coconut oil contains lauric acid aka magic. The health benefits of coconut oil include hair care, skin care, stress relief, maintaining cholesterol levels, weight loss, increased immunity, proper digestion and metabolism, relief from kidney problems, heart disease, high blood pressure, dental care, bone strength, it even helps prevent cancer & HIV, thank you again coconut oil baby Jesus. I keep one jar in my kitchen and one jar in my bathroom. I use the jar in the kitchen to put in my food & to substitute cooking oil for coconut oil. The jar in my bathroom I use to make myself a pretty princess. I deep condition my hair with it, I rub it on my scalp, I use it as face moisturizer, I use it as lotion, I use it to condition my nails, I use it on razor burns, I use it if I get a booboo. EVERYTHING. Highly recommended to those who would like to smell/look/feel like a beautiful butterfly and/or not get AIDS. You welcome.

Health Tip #1: Drink Yakults!

Excuse my mystery stained Cowboys sweatshirt pajamas. Though the quite possible hot dog grease droplet is very distracting, focus on what is in my hand. I’ve been drinking these little babies since I was a toddler. Yakults originated in Japan in 1935. They used to be difficult to find but I buy mine from Wal-Mart. To give you the standard definition: “A cultured probiotic drink w/ dairy that contains live and active Lactobacillus case Shirota”. My definition: F*cking delicious, kind of like drinkable skittles, which also so happens to be healthy for me; win. Pretty much, no matter what you are trying to do with yourself: Lose weight, gain weight, maintain weight, become healthier, stay healthy, etc., etc. - The start of good health and proper nutrition begins in your digestive system. Per www.YakultUsa.com this is how Yakults work: Yakult is a probiotic; it contains billions of live and active “good bacteria.” Your digestive system naturally contains trillions of all kinds of bacteria — some are helpful, some are harmful. When you drink Yakult daily, it makes it difficult for the bad bacteria to take over . Yakult also gives you more of the good bacteria that may help balance your digestive system. K, that’s it. By the way, the nail polish I’m wearing is Brand: MAC Color: Salad Dressing Price: $16 Description: Midtone dirty aqua. You welcome.
